HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR PAINTING
A Simple, Stress-Free Guide for DECOpaint Clients
When you choose DECOpaint, you’re trusting me with your home — and I take that seriously.
My job is to deliver clean lines, flawless finishes, and a calm, organized experience from start to finish.Your part is simple: a little preparation goes a long way in keeping the project smooth, efficient, and stress-free.
This guide walks you through exactly how to prepare your space before painting begins.
No guesswork. No surprises.
CLEAR THE WORK AREA (THIS IS THE BIG ONE)
To work cleanly and efficiently, I need clear access to all walls and trim.
Please remove:
Small furniture (chairs, side tables, desks)
Wall décor, art, mirrors, shelves
Curtains, blinds, and curtain rods
Rugs and floor mats
Fragile or sentimental items
For large furniture:
Move it to the center of the room where possible
I’ll professionally cover and protect it
If moving furniture is difficult, let me know in advance — a furniture-moving add-on can be arranged.
TAKE CARE OF WALLS & HARDWARE
Before painting day, please:
Remove nails, screws, hooks, and anchors (unless you want them patched)
Take down TVs or mounted electronics.
Remove outlet covers and switch plates if possible
If you’d like patching and repair, that’s no problem — just let me know ahead of time so it’s included in the scope.
PROTECT YOUR VALUABLES
While I use a full No-Mess Protocol, I recommend clients:
Store valuables, jewelry, and important documents elsewhere
Move delicate electronics out of the room
Secure pets in another area of the home during work hours
This keeps everyone safe and worry-free.
CLEANLINESS MAKES A DIFFERENCE
You don’t need to deep-clean — but a quick reset helps paint adhere properly.
Before I arrive:
Lightly dust baseboards and walls
Wipe greasy or high-touch areas (especially kitchens)
Vacuum or sweep floors if accessible
I handle all masking, floor protection, and daily cleanup during the project.
PLAN FOR THE DAY(S) OF WORK
Every DECOpaint project follows a defined timeline.
Expect:
A confirmed start and finish day
Quiet, focused work (one room per week — no overlapping jobs)
Daily cleanup before I leave
If you work from home:
Let me know — I’ll plan quieter tasks around calls when possible
FINAL WALKTHROUGH & TOUCH-UPS
At the end of the project:
We do a final walkthrough together
Any touch-ups are noted and completed
Lines, edges, and finishes are checked closely
If something doesn’t meet the standard — it gets fixed. Simple as that.
A QUICK RECAP
To prepare your home:
Clear walls and floors
Move or center furniture
Remove décor and hardware
Secure valuables and pets
Communicate any concerns upfront
That’s it.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Preparation isn’t about rushing — it’s about respecting your home and delivering the quality you hired me for.
When the space is ready:
The work is cleaner
The finish is sharper
The experience is calmer
The results last longer
If you ever have a question before painting day, just ask.
Clear communication is part of the service.
Thanks for trusting DECOpaint with your space.
